Huawei pledges support to Nigeria universities’ ICT research, innovation

Huawei, a front line global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices has pledged its support to Nigerian educational sector, especially the universities with ICT technologies, research and innovation.

Mr ZhangMi Mars, the Director, Nigerian Enterprise Delivery, Huawei, stated this in Abuja at HUAWEI Educational Summit Abuja.

He said Huawei is committed to adding value to Nigeria’s education hence the education summit and opportunities of training provided by Huawei to Nigeria students and young graduates.

“It is our hope that we improve education quality in Nigeria through research and innovation” he said.

“Huawei will commit to advancing the frontiers of education in Nigeria, especially in the area of information and communications technologies (ICT)” he said.

He also said Huawei is committed to providing the academia with industry standard knowledge.

He also called on other educational and technological stakeholders to also contribute..

“We need all the stakeholders to also play their part. Breakthrough technologies have been witnessed in recent years that have redefined education and today, the journey to redefine education has begun. It’s our stronghold and belive through this summit, ideas will be brought forward that will improve education in Nigeria” he said.

Some students who previously benefited from Huawei training exposure in China also shared their exoerinces at the summit.

Atabo Hamza, a beneficiary of the Huawei Road show at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria said “Igot introduced into the different technologies at a road show at ABU. Since then I had gained some critical skills. We were trained in China. We went through the competition, we bacame global at global competition in China” he said.

He said after that experience, they have utilized the knowledge gained to make more impact and promote more digital inclusion in Nigeria. He encouraged other students to put in more efforts in ICT and also leverage the Huawei Road shows.

Also Daniela Udochi, who studied Computer Scheince at University of Porth Harcourt said Huwei gave them amzing opportunities and has enabled her to pursue a career in networking and other areas of ICT.

The Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Prof. Kabiru Bala in his presentation on ABU ICT Academy Case Sharing Industry Certification Integration into Conventional Curricula said the partnership with Huawei has been rewarding.

He said the partnership has assisted ABU students in wining ICT competitions.

He said the Universities need to improve skills acquisition of their students.

He noted that the landscape for university education has changed to digital and technology applications to university teachning proces.

He said the partnership led to the establishment of Huawei ICT Academy was established in ABU to accelerate skills transfer, development of ICT talents and more.

He ssid through the Academy, the students are exposed to latest ICT technologies and their is also room for internship adding that some of the students have gotten the highest ICT certification in China and they are highly skilled
