The Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu has said NiMet has enjoyed labour harmony lately because of a deliberate policy that is open and transparent.
He also said NiMet now op rates an open door policy where even the junior staff have access to the management staff adding that as the CEO, he also deliberately interacts with cleaners, messengers and other lower cadre staff to guage their feelings and inculcate their input into.governance.
Prof.. Matazu exclusively told our correspondent that because of the staff-centric disposition of the current administration, NiMet has achieved Unprecedented industrial harmony.
“One of our policy thrust is the enhancement of staff welfare” he said.
“For us in NiMet being an operational agency, we are dealing with three pillars. One is hardware, the software and human human ware. If we have good hardware and software at optimum status but the human ware are not comfortable nor confident in the system, we won’t get the desired result. Our products are not all machine generated. Some are generated by human beings’ he noted.
The NiMet CEO further stated that NiMet further recognised the importance of increasing staff welfare. “So we have improved our conditions of service by translating it into different pockets of welfare like trainings and retraining. We have also inculcated the habit of mentoring of staff so.thst senior staff will train middle cadre and the middle cadre mentor the junior cadre” he noted.
“We have also created an open policy where junior staff have access to senior staff. As CEO I go round and interact with staff, including messengers and cleaners and get inputs from them. This made the staff to improve their productivity as they even work extra hours” he stated.
He also said he gives equal attention to staff issues outside of the headquarters.
“I also pay attention to issues from the outside of the headquarters in Abuja. If I treat 100 files, 80 are from the out stations” he said.
He also said staff have access to Internet facilities, reliable power supply and other conducive work place conducive environment facilities.
He also said he has constant interaction with staff and union members.
“As CEO I meet with staff every two months to get there inputs I decision. This has helped the synergy with unions too” he said..
