By ZAKAA LAZARUS-Abuja.
The organized unemployed youth know as Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria, UYAN has declared its commitment to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on every policy that is geared towards tackling unemployment among youths in the country.
The President, Comrade Casmir Irekamba made this statement to commend president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to create youth unemployment benefits.
According a statement released by honourable minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, President Bola Tinubu has directed the creation of a Social Security Unemployment Programme where unemployed youths will be paid to ease economic hardship, he said.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the State House, Abuja, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Tinubu.
He said: “At this period of heightened food prices, Mr. President has committed to doing all that can be done to assist in giving purchasing power to the poorest and in that line, he has committed and instructed that the social security unemployment programme be devised, particularly to cater for the youths, for the unemployed graduates, as well as the society as a whole. So, we have coming, in the nearest future, an unemployment benefit for the young unemployed, in particular.”
Comrade Irekamba said Statistics showed that over 60 percent of the population is under the age of 40. This demographic presents both opportunities and challenges for the country’s economic development.
UYAN has the true membership statistics of unemployed youth in Nigeria, Mr Irekamba appeals for the total inclusiveness of all the Unemployed youths in Nigeria, Urges Federal Government to channel the programme and scheme to unemployed youth association of nigeria, UYAN to achieve the intended results of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision and plan to include the unemployed youth palliative programme.
The National President of UYAN said the mandate of Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria, UYAN as organised unemployed youth is to take youths out of streets to ensure that the unemployed youths are employed or engaged directly or indirectly, a vision to productively and creatively engage young people in all communities across Nigeria.
He said that to begin with, youths are essentially indispensable stakeholders in the Nigeria project, adding that their expectations from governments and state institutions to drive their aspirations are high.
‘’There is no doubt that a lack of employment opportunities for young adults may lead them to resort to engaging in criminal activities or substance abuse.
‘’While we commend the cheering directives of the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in creating a Social Security Unemployment Programme where unemployed youths will be paid to ease economic hardship and working hard in
rebuilding the Nigerian economy,
The president must eliminate every administrative obstacle to job creation, inclusive growth, and ensuring equitable labour practices because every youth is no less Nigerian and they deserve direct government interventions in their personal and community development,’’ Irekamba said.
