The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has underscored the critical role traditional institutions play in ensuring the success of military operations.
He made this assertion during a visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, at his palace in Maiduguri.
During the visit, Lt Gen Oluyede stated that his presence in Borno State was part of his efforts to interact with troops and boost their morale for improved operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
He acknowledged and commended the Shehu for his enduring support for the Nigerian Army and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to restore peace and enable socio-economic growth in the region.
In his response, the Shehu of Borno recounted the state’s long-standing history of peace and harmony, expressing regret over the disruptions caused by the Boko Haram insurgency.
He pledged the full support of the people of Borno State to the security forces and expressed optimism about the complete eradication of terrorism and the restoration of peace and stability in the state.
