The Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), Major General Oluyinka Soyele, said troops are ready and on ground to protect farmers during the raining season to enhanced food security in the Northwest .
General Soyele Revealed this at the Operation Fansan Yamma Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State.
He stated that the northwest will witness increase in farm produce this year because of the presence of fighting troops has boosted the confidence of farmers to return to their farmlands.
General Soyele also noted that the achievement recorded so far is made possible due to efforts of the Chief Of Defence Staff, ensuring that more equipments are given to troops to fight banditry in the region.
According to him “we have been able to neutralize many terrorist kingpins.
Our strategy is to take the battle to their enclaves and engage them”.
“We have more equipment now to aid our operations”.
“With our operations now more coordinated, terrorists find it difficult to move freely from Zamfara State to other parts of the Northwest. When we conduct an operation in Zamfara State, our troops in other areas are on alert, ready to intercept terrorists attempting to cross into their territories.”
General Soyele said the theater has conducted non-kinetic operations targeted at boosting the relationship between the locals and the military to ensuring a smooth intelligence gathering.
Gen. Soyele also said difficult terrains and topography nature of the region must times made it very difficult for troops to gets to terrorist enclaves.
He however said present of troops on the Major roads in the northwest has made it impossible for bandits to carry out their activities of kidnapping for Ramson.
“Many communities in remote areas are inaccessible, making it challenging for us to respond quickly when we receive reports of terrorists in those areas due to the lack of accessible roads, which often serve as hideouts for them.” General Soyele added.
