The peace initiative followed escalating tensions and unresolved communal disputes between the Tiv and Fulani populations in Gassol LGA. In a proactive move to avert violence, Brigadier General Uwa invited the Chairman of Gassol LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, alongside traditional leaders, community elders, and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on a sustainable path to peace.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Uwa condemned the cycle of violence and warned against taking the law into one’s hands. He emphasized that no individual or group has the constitutional mandate to enforce justice outside the bounds of the law. The Commander urged all stakeholders to be ambassadors of peace and agents of development in their communities, stressing that true security, growth, and prosperity can only be achieved in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.

He further appreciated the Chairman of Gassol LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, for his leadership and commitment to peace by mobilizing his people for the dialogue.

The parties involved resolved to embrace peace, promote regular dialogue, and desist from shielding criminal elements within their communities. They pledged to support security agencies with timely information and work collectively to prevent the re-emergence of conflict.

Speaking on behalf of the Gassol communities, the LGA Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Usman, lauded the 6 Brigade Commander for initiating the peace process. He commended the Nigerian Army, particularly troops under 6 Brigade, for their sacrifices and relentless efforts toward maintaining peace and stability in the area.

The meeting culminated in the signing of a peace pact by all parties present, with a shared commitment to upholding the resolutions and working collaboratively with relevant authorities to ensure full implementation.

This initiative by 6 Brigade highlights the importance of non-kinetic measures in resolving conflicts and enhancing community relations within Taraba State.
