The troops of 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion made a significant breakthrough in the fight against armed robbery, banditry and other acts of criminality in Kaduna State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops, while on fighting patrol, intercepted and arrested 3 suspected gunrunners along Road Kauya – Old Afaka – Sabon Birni in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.
The arrest was announced in statement issued by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye to Defence Correspondence in Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Yakubu Jilbril (45 years), Abubakar Yahaya (45 years) and Isiya Sani (30 yeras), were arrested while driving in a black Golf 4 Car with Registration Number, ABUJA YAB 385 K7.
The statement said a large cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be meant for criminals in the bush was recovered from their possession.
He added that the recovered items include quantity 9 x AK 47 rifles, 389 x 7.62mm (special) live rounds, 54 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO) ammunition, 17 magazines and 4 GSM handsets. Others were quantity one magazine carrier, One machete, some charms, One MTN WIFI modem, Suspected illicit substances, tyre cold patching materials and the sum of Three Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand, Six Hundred (N365,600.00) Naira only.
He said the suspects and the recovered items are in custody for further investigation. The swift action of the troops dealt a significant blow to the activities of terrorists, armed robbers, and bandits in the area.
