Makurdi Resident Excited as BIPC Test Runs Benue’s Fruit Juice Factory in Makurdi

by Kiso Simon
Residents of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, went into jubilation on Wednesday as the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) commenced test production at the state’s fruit juice factory.
The facility, located in Makurdi, began operations with the production of orange juice, marking a new chapter in Benue’s agro-industrial drive. Excited residents, especially farmers, welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited step toward reducing post-harvest losses and boosting the state’s economy.
Speaking during the launch, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, CFA, expressed optimism that the factory would transform the fortunes of local farmers.
According to him, the facility will absorb large quantities of oranges and mangoes produced across the state fruits that have often gone to waste while creating employment opportunities for thousands of young people.
Dr. Asemakaha, who was appointed by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, noted that the initiative aligns with the governor’s vision of revitalizing state owned enterprises and driving economic diversification through agriculture and industrialization.
“Benue is blessed with vast agricultural resources, and this factory is a key step toward ensuring our farmers benefit directly from their labor. We want to stop the exploitation by middlemen and guarantee fair returns for our local producers,” he said.
Farmers and residents have applauded the development, commending Governor Alia for his commitment to reviving the BIPC and promoting value addition in the agricultural sector. Many described the project as a major stride toward achieving food security and economic sustainability in the state.
Established and incorporated in 1980, BIPC is a state owned enterprise with an asset base of over ₦18 billion. The company plays a strategic role in managing public investments and supporting projects that stimulate industrial and economic growth across Benue State.
