Soliders Beat Up Tiv Mourners in Kadarko, Detain Widower, Others

Operatives from 1234 Special Squade in Doma, Keana, Local Government stationed in Kadarko district have allegedly disrupted a wake keep in Kadarko and took the widower and Mourners into custody.

Eye witness account said the chief mourner, a middle aged Tiv man, Mr. Tony Agem, who recently lost his wife was hosting a wake keep at Angwan Tiv, in Kadarko when the soldiers storm the area and allegedly disrupted the programme.

According to him, as it is with their custom, every Saturday, “Agbende Akyambe” (Age Grade), gatherers to pay their homage.

“Regrettably, during yesterday’s (Saturday) ceremony, the soldiers in Kadarko disrupted this solemn occasion, flogging everyone present’ the eye qithess acount said.

“Some of our brothers have been arrested and are being subjected to inhumane treatment, facing beatings that are taking a toll on their lives. Even the said young man who lost his wife is still in their custody for no reason” the eye witness further stated.

“Our humble appeal is that the Authorities ahould tell the soldiers stationed in Kadarko that we, as human beings, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect” he cried.

“We implore those who have the power to address this situation to please speak out and put an end to the maltreatment we are suffering in the hands of these soldiers” he fulther prayed.
