Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging internal power struggles, welfare neglect, and financial exploitation at 90 Battalion, Koko.
The Division described the claims as unsubstantiated, malicious, and a calculated attempt to blackmail the battalion’s command structure.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma said the Division clarified that postings and deployments within the Nigerian Army are routine administrative processes carried out without bias or consideration for religion, loyalty, or any other sentiment. It said suggestions that soldiers are posted based on such factors are false and aimed at undermining the integrity of the institution.
The statement reiterated the Nigerian Army’s professionalism and its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, welfare abuse, religious-based postings, and all forms of misconduct. It added that the Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion has been performing his duties responsibly and in line with established procedures.
The Division further emphasized that the Nigerian Army has formal channels for addressing administrative grievances, warning that personnel who resort to external platforms to make unverified claims may be attempting institutional blackmail. It assured that any credible report of wrongdoing particularly concerning extortion will be duly investigated.
Members of the public were urged to disregard the allegations and remain confident in the Army’s commitment to accountability and transparency. The statement also reaffirmed the Division’s dedication to safeguarding the Niger Delta region.
