GOC 8 Division Donates 20 Motorcycles to Women in Giginya Cantonment

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose has donated 20 Motorcycles to enhance the economic well-being of families of personnel in Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson, 8 division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba said, the gesture is aimed at boosting their income-generating activities and fostering self-reliance within the barracks community.

According to him, the GOC/Commander Sector 2 OPFY handed over of the 20 brand new motor cycles to the Cantonment Magajia at the NAOWA Leisure Park. He emphasized that the gesture reflects the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families and a key component of his Barracks Women Empowerment Scheme.

He said the GOC highlighted the importance of the motorcycles are expected to provide crucial mobility for women engaged in petty trading, enabling them to access markets, manage logistics and expand their small businesses both within and outside the cantonmen

He said, the GOC further noted that initiative aligned with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to enhance the morale and wellbeing of troops and their dependents through meaningful empowerment programmes.

“The GOC also commended the Magajia and other women leaders for their vital role in supporting the troops and maintaining peace and harmony within the barracks

“Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Magajiya of Giginya Cantonment, Hajiya Amina Adamu, expressed profound gratitude for the transformative support. She praised the GOC’s visionary leadership and assured that the motorcycles would be distributed equitably and maintained responsibly.

“The event was attended by formation commanders, senior officers, the Chairperson of the 8 Division Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and personnel families from.

“The ceremony concluded with a symbolic handover of the keys, a presentation of souvenirs and group photographs, marking a hopeful step towards greater economic independence for the women of Giginya Cantonment, ” the statement averred.
