The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has described the approval of N48 billion by the federal government for the upgrade of engineering workshops and laboratories in twelve selected universities as commendable.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, TMV argued that the move is not only timely but desirable considering the need for the acquisition of technological knowledge by Nigerian graduates.

It said: “We acknowledge that ‘the intervention will be used to rehabilitate and equip modern workshops and laboratories with cutting-edge, industry-relevant facilities to bridge the gap between theory and practical competence.’

“It is also expected that the intervention will focus on the rehabilitation of engineering and technological faculties in the selected universities.

“Furthermore, the funds will be used to upgrade existing facilities or support the construction of new engineering workshops.

“We also acknowledge that based on the determination of President Bola Tinubu, this intervention will enhance skills acquisition and economic diversification.

“We also align with the position of the minister of education that: ‘the high-impact intervention project is a strategic initiative aimed at upgrading laboratories, workshops, and research facilities, positioning our institutions as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.’

“In addition, we are gladdened that following President Tinubu’s commitment to reposition education at all levels and as a driver of national development, the federal government has also unlocked the sum of $552 million under the Hope-Edu programme to accelerate basic education reform across the country.

“The Hope for Quality Education for All programme is co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education. It supports measurable reforms which are in tandem with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.”

It added that these are verifiable evidence of well thought out plans by the Tinubu administration to bolster the country’s education sector.
