Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Benue State converged on Abuja on Wednesday for a strategic meeting with their leaders, Chief Nyesom Wike and Chief Samuel Ortom.
The meeting charted the party’s path to victory in Benue State in 2027.
Amongst those hankering for governorship were: Prof. Sebastine Hon SAN, FCIArb; Dr. Dennis Ityavyar; and Dr. Tersoo Loko.
This gathering underscored the importance of unity and consensus-building within the party.
With multiple contenders vying for the ticket, the meeting presented opportunity for aspirants to iron out differences and present a united front.
Analysts believe the meeting is crucial in selecting a candidate who can galvanize the party and appeal to a broad spectrum of the electorate.
A consensus candidate is seen as key to PDP’s chances of reclaiming the governorship seat in the Food Basket state.
The meeting’s emphasis on unity and collective effort is a positive sign and it is hoped that aspirants will put aside personal ambitions for the party’s greater good.
This is because it is not just about standing for election; clinching victory is the ultimate goal. So, the aspirants should listen – and listen well – to wise counsel. It will save them resources and spare them anguish.
Chief Wike and Chief Ortom’s leadership is seen as pivotal in shaping the party’s fortunes.
Their experience and insight are invaluable in selecting a candidate who can lead the party to victory.
Chief Wike has for many years been the pillar upon which the umbrella stands.
Against all odds, he has remained faithful and kept the party’s flag flying.
Where resources are needed, he provides. Where moral strength is needed, he is there.
He therefore, deserves respect and honours.
Similarly, Chief Ortom has remained the party’s anchor and must be listened to. He has been in the game long enough to read the signs and make a worthwhile forecast.
A united PDP with a sellable candidate is poised to make a strong showing in Benue State’s 2027 elections.
Indeed, Benue State stands to harvest bountifully should this initiative produce the desired outcome.
A party with very strong structures only needs a well coordinated plan, discipline and sincerity of purpose to take its rightful place in the Benue valley.
The meeting’s resolutions must be binding with strict follow-ups to ensure implementation.
This strategic gathering is a game-changer for PDP in Benue State and it is important that the party capitalizes on the momentum. We want to see action, not just words.
