NiMet predicts thunderstorms in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, others

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms in most parts of the North from Sunday till Tuesday.

NiMet said there are prospects of thunderstorms accompanied with intermittent rains over the North and North central parts of the country which may disrupt human and vehicular traffic, citizens living in the region are advised to take necessary precautions.

NiMet forecast for Sunday showed that “cloudy skies are expected over the North east and North west with good prospects of thunderstorms over parts Sokoto, Kaduna, Taraba, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa and Katsina state during the morning hours.”

Later in the afternoon/evening on Sunday indicated that “thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Bono, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe and Katsina state. Cloudy morning is anticipated over the North central region with chances of morning rains over parts of Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Federal Capital Territory and Benue state.”

“Thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue and Niger state during the afternoon/evening hours. Moderate rains are expected over the inland and coastal cities of the south with chances of morning rains over parts of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo and Lagos state. Later in the day, moderate rains are expected over Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Delta and Akwa Ibom state.”

On Monday cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the Northern region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa and Taraba state. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa state. The North central region is expected to be cloudy with chances of rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger and Kwara state during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory. Intermittent rains are anticipated over the inland and coastal cities of the South throughout the forecast period. 

On Tuesday, coudy atmosphere is anticipated over the Northern region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa and Taraba during the morning hours. Thunderstorms are expected over Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi and Gombe during the afternoon/evening hours. The North central region is expected to be cloudy with slim chances of morning rains over the region. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa state. The inland and the coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy with prospects of morning rains over parts of Ogun, Ondo and Oyo state. Later in the day, moderate rains are expected over the entire region.
