The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the partnership between state agencies in advancing international cooperation and securing critical support for developmental initiatives in Benue State.
Commenting during the visit, Mr. Viashima expressed the Bureau’s commitment to fostering inter-agency collaboration to enhance the impact of international partnerships across the state.
Mr. Viashima acknowledged the significant role the Rehabilitation Board plays in the state’s development agenda, particularly in areas requiring specialized intervention such as mental health and disability support.
He noted that this visit was the first of its kind from a state government agency to the Bureau, setting a precedent for future collaborations aimed at maximizing international cooperation.
He urged the Rehabilitation Board to actively communicate its achievements and project needs to potential donors, ensuring that the international community recognizes the Board’s contributions to social development in Benue State.
Further discussions centered on the need for continuous coordination between the BICD and the Rehabilitation Board, especially in leveraging international resources and expertise to scale up the Board’s initiatives.
Mr. Viashima also highlighted opportunities for joint training programs and capacity building, particularly in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), which is increasingly becoming a focal area for international development partners.
The Executive Secretary, Mr. Mbakindev, outlined the Rehabilitation Board’s core activities, including the rehabilitation of substance addicts, empowerment of persons with disabilities, and the provision of psychotherapy to individuals with mental health challenges.
He highlighted the necessity of aligning these activities with international standards and best practices, which he believes can be achieved through closer collaboration with the BICD.
The Executive Secretary emphasized the strategic importance of the Bureau’s role in connecting the Board with international donors and partners. By working closely with the BICD, the Rehabilitation Board seeks to position itself as a key player in the global effort to address critical social issues within the state, thereby attracting international funding and technical support for its programs.
Mr. Mbakindev expressed confidence that this collaboration will yield tangible results, contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development and improved social welfare in Benue State.
This visit marks a critical step in solidifying the role of state agencies like the Benue State Rehabilitation Board in the global network of international cooperation and development, with the BICD serving as a pivotal link to international organizations and donors.
