The initiative was formally flagged off on Monday, 11 August 2025, at the Apapa Area Command in Lagos.

The Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Charles Orbih, described the launch as a turning point in redefining Customs Officers’ identity in Nigeria.

He stated, “Understanding what we deal with is fundamental to our success. Reputation, as defined in this guide, is a collective perspective about institutional integrity and performance.”

“For the Nigeria Customs Service, a strong reputation enhances public trust, encourages inter-agency and international cooperation, boosts morale among staff while improving citizen engagement”, he added.

In his remarks, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, stressed that the Command’s officers, in collaboration with other commands within the zone, are fully prepared to uphold the principles outlined in the guide.

“I want to assure you that, on behalf of officers and men of Zone ‘A’, we stand committed to abide by every principle being taught in this programme,” Olomu said.

The event also featured presentations by three facilitators on the principles of reputation management, followed by an interactive session that underscored renewed professionalism and patriotism among participants.
