The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has dismissed a viral threat message circulating online about an alleged “sit-at-home” order scheduled for Thursday, 20 November 2025, describing it as fake, baseless, and the handiwork of criminal elements.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the Division said the threat was deliberately crafted to instill fear, disrupt economic activities, and undermine government authority in the South East. He noted that security forces have successfully dismantled unlawful sit-at-home directives previously imposed by proscribed groups.

Lt. Col. Ayeni assured residents that the region remains safe and fully open for business, adding that no illegal order will be allowed to disrupt the peace, movement, or livelihood of law-abiding citizens.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies, has put in place a comprehensive security arrangement across the region. Troops have been deployed to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure, and to forestall any attempt at sabotage or violence.

The Division emphasized that freedom of movement is guaranteed and urged residents to go about their daily activities without fear. It also called on the public to disregard messages of intimidation circulated by individuals seeking to incite panic for selfish motives. Citizens were encouraged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support ongoing security efforts. “If you see something, say something,” the statement advised.

The Army further warned criminal elements against attempting to enforce any illegal directive, stressing that anyone caught doing so will face the full weight of the law.
