The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the implementation of robust and proactive security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property across the country during the yuletide

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General ME Onoja, the DHQ said the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified operations in identified vulnerable areas nationwide.

According to the statement, additional troops have been deployed to strategic locations and major routes, while special forces units and air support elements have been placed on high alert to guarantee rapid response to any security threat.

The military high command also disclosed that surveillance activities, including aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, have been significantly enhanced to track the movement and communication of suspected criminal groups. Unit Commanders have been directed to increase patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and strengthen cooperation with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security outfits.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain fully dedicated to protecting lives and property throughout the festive period. It emphasized that ensuring peace, unity, and stability during the celebrations remains a top priority.

The DHQ, however, stressed that public cooperation is essential to the success of ongoing security operations. Citizens were urged to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency, with assurances that all reports would be treated with urgency and confidentiality.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, extended his goodwill to Nigerians, wishing them a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance.
