Troops of Operation UDO KA have maintained relentless pressure on terrorist elements in Nigeria’s South-East, achieving significant breakthroughs in efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the general area of responsibility.
This was made in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, to defence correspondents on Friday in Abuja.
The director highlights the operation of troops as thus: ” Focused cordon-and-search operations in Ikwo and Afikpo South Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State targeted suspected terrorist enclaves, resulting in the arrest of one armed terrorist and the broader apprehension of eight suspected terrorists across the state. Troops also recovered assorted weapons and ammunition, rescued kidnapped victims, and destroyed illegal camps. Actions that continue to deny criminal groups operational space while encouraging community cooperation and voluntary surrenders.
“In a notable joint operation on 19 February 2026, troops working alongside personnel from other security agencies conducted a fighting patrol in the Mast Tango general area of Imo State. The patrol made contact with terrorists, neutralizing several members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) and recovering multiple assault rifles’. He averred.
According to Defence Headquarters, these achievements reflect the Nigerian military’s strategic commitment to dismantling separatist and criminal networks that have long undermined security in the South-East.
General Onoja averred that through intelligence-led raids, rapid response, and inter-agency synergy, Operation UDO KA is steadily restoring public confidence and enabling communities to resume normal life.
He said the courage and professionalism displayed by troops underscore the Armed Forces’ broader mission to secure every region of Nigeria.
“As these operations erode terrorist capabilities, they pave the way for sustained development, reconciliation, and unity in the South-East, reinforcing the nation’s resolve against all forms of violent extremism’, he said.
