The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for Benue State in the 2027 elections, Prof. Sebastine Hon SAN on Sunday condemned the killing of people in Otukpo by suspected Fulani terrorists, describing it as “a cowardly genocide.”
At least 16 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders in Nobi community, Otukpo Local Government Area.
Fulani terrorists were said to have entered the community in the early hours of Sunday and unleashed terror.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, the senior lawyer said he had earlier warned of possible reprisals which authorities ignored.
“The Otukpo genocide is cowardly. It is hereby condemned with the harshest words!
“I had warned of reprisals. They pretended there would be no such reprisals. The authorities also looked the other way!
“The terrorists have now had their way! Precious and innocent souls have been wasted! For no fault of theirs!
“Shame on you, terrorists. Shame to the sponsors! Shame to the political establishment that has consistently failed hapless Nigerians.
“Those who have lost loved ones, Divine visitation on the perpetrators and their collaborators is certain. Only time shall tell. May the Holy Spirit comfort you all,” he wrote.
The post drew several reactions from supporters.
Garshagu Atovigba wrote: “Thank you, Prof. I read your response to the two Fulani killings.
“You correctly predicted the reprisals and advised that government take measures to forestall same.
“Now there were published security reports of suspected Fulani terrorists entering some forests of Otukpo LGA which we prevailed on government to take seriously and act but government as usual did nothing about the security reports.”
Another supporter Mr. Ormom Isaac said, “So sad and negligence of the highest order by those who are saddled with the responsibility to protect citizens.
“It’s indeed shame on the part of government. Those and many more reasons we are crying for you to come and rescue Benue 2027.
“May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
Sesugh Terna also reacted: “What a world? When I have a stick I can’t find a hole. When I have a hole I can’t find a stick.”
Many other commenters prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and called for urgent government action to end the killings.
