The Benue State Government has declared February 24th, 2023 work-free day to enable workers of the State proceed to their various communities to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections this Saturday.
The State Executive Council took the decision during its meeting on Thursday, a statement signed by Hon. Michael Inalegwu, theCommissioner for Information, Culture & Tourism said..
The following sectors are however exempted from the work-free day and will therefore continue to provide services to the public tomorrow. These are the Judiciary, Security, Banks, Hospitals and Fire Service.
Council further urged Benue people to conduct themselves peacefully during the elections as they have done in previous ones.
However, the cash crunch will impact significantly on citizens ability to travel to their localities.
Some Makurdi residents expressed excitement about the holiday but are worried about the lack of cash to pay for transportation fare because most of the local transport operators aren’t taking transfers nor doing POS transactions.
