Counsel to Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State , Demian Dodo, SAN, has objected to the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa Ari, to testify in favour of Senator Aishatu Dahiru, AKA Binani ,as the star witness at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yola, on Sunday.
Also, counsels to the second and third respondents, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and INEC objected to Hudu giving oral evidence.
As gathered, the respondents, opposed Hudu giving any evidence on grounds that his written witness was yet to be tendered to them.
Furthermore, counsel to INEC argued that the electoral umpire, claimed that it was not furnished with any information as to whether their staff was going to testify in favour of the APC candidate which left the tribunal in shock.
Fierce looking armed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday, barred journalists from covering the Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
DSS personnel supported by policemen, blocked the entrance into the courtroom and turned journalists away.
As gathered, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari was in the court to testify in support of the petition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani.
The generality of the opinion in Adamawa state, are saying while recommend for Hudu’s prosecution at the same time denied him from testifying in an exercise that he supervised directly.
Binani had listed the Suspended REC, Yunusa-Ari as her star witness, in the suit she instituted at the tribunal seeking to nullify the election of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, of Adamawa state.
Yunusa-Ari, had during the April 15, 2023 governorship supplementary election, declared the APC candidate, Senator Binani, as the winner of the poll before the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC upturned the decision.
