NiMet Predicts Strong Winds, Heavy Rainfall Across Northern States, Others

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of heavy rainfall and very strong winds in most parts of the Northern states of Nigeria.

The NiMet impact-based weather forecast issued on Thursday 7th September 2023 showed that “there are prospects of heavy rainfall over parts of Niger and Kwara State on Friday 8th September), and moderate to heavy rainfall over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, and Oyo state.

Other states to experience moderate to heavy rainfall include; Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, Cross River, Imo, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers State.

NiMet predicted that in the next three days (8th, 9th, and 10th September 2023), there are good chances of very strong winds affecting parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau and Kaduna State. While strong winds are anticipated over the rest of the country it said.

Also Low to Moderate Rainfall is expected over places in Yellow colour. While elsewhere there is little or no risk of hydrometeorological hazard.

The NiMet prediction also indicated moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday 9th September over parts of Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Yobe, Benue, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto State. There are also prospects of low to moderate Rainfall over places in Yellow Color. Elsewhere there is little or no risk of hydrometeorological hazard.

There are also slim prospects of moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday 10th September over parts of Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, and River State the forecast said.

Meanwhile Low to Moderate Rainfall is expected over parts of Borno, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Plateau, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Oyo, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Cross River, Edo, Rivers and Imo State (See places in Yellow Color on the Map). But elsewhere there is little or no risk of hydrometeorological hazard.

There is little or no chance of temperature-related hazards across the country due to the low to moderate temperatures that are anticipated within these forecast periods.
