The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushu’a Ahmed has applauded Ebonyi State Government for its continuous support to the smooth operations of the Scheme.
The Director General gave the commendation at the Ebonyi State Government House, Abakaliki, during a courtesy call on Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
General Ahmed saluted the State for upholding one of its statutory responsibilities by upgrading facilities at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Afikpo.
He said the renovation of the multi-purpose hall, and a hostel block that was hitherto gutted by fire at the camp is a clear demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to providing a serene environment for Corps Members’ training.
Speaking further, the NYSC helmsman appealed for improved welfare for Corps Members, especially through the provision of monthly stipends, taking into consideration the present economic realities.
He also requested the State Government to release the Ezillo Rice Mill back to the Scheme, which would be used as Corps Members’ demonstration farm, which aligns with Federal Government’s recent policy on food security in the country.
Also speaking during the visit, NYSC Ebonyi State Coordinator, Mrs Foluke Oladeinde appealed to the State Government to provide a Hilux Van to cater for the exigencies of her office, well equipped camp clinic/accommodation for the medical team, an ambulance and more hostels for Corps Members at the Orientation Camp.
In his response, Governor Nwifuru thanked the NYSC for its role in moulding and the mentoring young Nigerian graduates, thereby preparing them for future leadership of the country; and promised to look into all the requests.
Following the visit, a brand new Toyota Hilux Van was released to the State Coordinator through the Chairman of the NYSC Ebonyi State Governing Board/Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Richard Ugo Idike.
