The Nigerian Army has announced Major General Warrah Idris as the new commander of its command at Headquarters Operation FASAN YAMMA (OPFY).

His assumption of command follows his redeployment from Defence Department of Transformation and Innovation arising from the recent Army Headquarters posting which redeployed senior officers.

The formal handing and taking over was held at the Theatre Headquarters, OPFY, Gusau, Zamfara State, on Monday, November3, 2025.

This was disclosed by the Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, through a press statement.

The statement noted that the outgoing Acting Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi appreciated officers, men and civilian staff for their loyalty and support during his brief tenure. He attributed the achievements recorded in the theatre to their professionalism and teamwork, urging them to extend the same support to his successor. He is posted to Nigerian Air Force Headquarters (NAF HQ) as the Chief of Policy and Plans (NAF).

In his maiden address, Major General Idris thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for the confidence reposed in him and commended his predecessor for his leadership. He pledged to consolidate on existing gains and enhance synergy among components of the Joint Task Force.

He urged all personnel to remain disciplined, focused, and innovative in the conduct of operations, while calling for stronger collaboration with communities and security stakeholders to achieve lasting peace in the region.
