The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has charged troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, operating in Benue and contiguous states to decisively quell all security challenges in their area of operations in order to maintain peace and security of the region and the nation as a whole.

The COAS gave the charge during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE in Makurdi on Wednesday, 12 February 2025.

Briefing the COAS, the Commander, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Lewis Lepdung highlighted the successes recorded in the ongoing operations as well as the challenges confronting the troops. The COAS assured the troops of his unflinching support to achieve their operational mandate.

The Army Chief further pledged to prioritise the welfare of the troops and that of their families, as well as provide combat enablers to enhance their operational effectiveness and expedite the attainment of their statutory tasks.

The operational tour also took the COAS to the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering and the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, where he inspected ongoing projects meant to address the acute shortage of accommodation and improve the living standards of the Barracks communities.
