CDS Hails “Produce For Lagos Programme, Describe Initiative As Model For National Security

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended the Lagos State Government for the launch of the “Produce for Lagos” Programme and the ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, describing it as a visionary initiative that bridges the critical link between food security and national stability.

The kinetic operation was executed in the early hours of Friday, 11 September 2026. Following positive identification, air platforms engaged the designated targets with precision munitions while ground troops occupied likely escape routes for direct fire engagements. The statement said the air strikes successfully destroyed targeted structures and neutralised over 18 terrorist elements. A post-strike assessment indicated an estimated 85 per cent success in achieving the intended operational objectives. The Army noted that the operation dealt “a significant blow to terrorist activities in the area, disrupting their logistics and degrading their ability to use the enclave as a gathering and support base.” It added that the outcome underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations, timely ISR confirmation, and coordinated air-ground synergy. OPHK assured that it will continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations “to deny terrorist elements the freedom to operate, regroup or establish logistics and support infrastructure across the Theatre,” working in concert with all security agencies and stakeholders. Members of the public were also encouraged to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security forces to support ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities across the North East Theatre.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the programme, the CDS expressed admiration for the bold collaboration between Lagos State, the private sector, and the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO), noting that the initiative comes at a crucial time when Nigeria is in urgent need of resilient and sustainable strategies to enhance food systems and economic security.

General Musa acknowledged the strategic alignment of the initiative with the Lagos State Agriculture and Food System Roadmap of 2021, applauding the state’s data-driven approach to strengthening agricultural value chains.

He emphasized that food security remains one of the most effective and non-kinetic tools in preventing insecurity, poverty, and unemployment across the nation.

He further noted that Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) such as LAFSINCO, Ekolog, and the Lagos Bulk Trading Company are establishing a replicable framework that not only boosts food production and logistics but also safeguards livelihoods across the country.

The CDS also praised the consistent excellence in governance exhibited by Lagos State, highlighting its economic growth trajectory, infrastructural strides, and strategic urban planning as benchmarks in subnational leadership.

He commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for sustaining and expanding the legacy of innovation and vision laid by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

While expressing gratitude for the invitation to participate in the launch, General Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to supporting non-kinetic strategies that promote peace and stability.

He also extended appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support to the nation’s security architecture.
