‎The federal government’s commitment to make available the sum of $538 million for the first phase of the Special Agro-industrial Processing zones programme (SAPZ) is a step in the right direction, the Tinubu Media Volunteers TMV has said.
‎
‎In a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, it pointed out that the programme, which included a youth-driven 10-year strategic action plan to transform the country’s agricultural sector, has the potential to rejuvenate the country’s agriculture and guarantee food security.
‎
‎It said “The SAPZ is a flagship initiative of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the sole aim of making food abundant and providing jobs for the teeming Nigerian youths. It will also boost agricultural productivity, improve rural livelihoods and accelerate agro-industrialisation.
‎
‎”We see this initiative as a well-thought-out programme, especially with food security and job creation at the core of its implementation.
‎
‎”There is no doubt that the federal government is using it to kill two birds – ensuring food security and engaging the youths more economically.”
‎
‎The group added that the initiative is worth celebrating because it aligns with the United Nations’ plan to unlock finance and investments to accelerate food systems transformation and availability across the globe.
