Learned Silk and 2027 governorship hopeful in Benue State, Professor Sebastine Hon on Thursday said he will enter the governorship race because of security concerns.
Prof Hon spoke in his Makurdi residence when women under the name Akume Chubby Laddies paid him a solidarity visit.
The women who wore branded blue T-shirts and face cap, came singing solidarity songs and dancing.
They donated a basket of fruits to the governorship hopeful, saying it is a show of love and care for the senior lawyer.
The leader of the group, Monica Beegu told their host, “We’re excited by your decision.
”We heard you are coming out for the seat of governor. If you permit us, we will be close to you, work for you from now till the end of the campaign” they pledged.
In his response, Prof Hon said, “l work with your principal [referring to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume] so I am part of you.
“Your principal [Sen. Akume] has worked so hard for the good of our society. I accept your offer. We’ll work together” he assured them.
However, he told the women that “it’s not yet time for campaign. What we are doing are consultations.”
He explained why he is interested in being governor, recalling chilling incident where a baby held onto her mother murdered by terrorists, sucking her breasts as if the mother were alive.
He said this image has been tormenting him since.
”We’re surrounded by armed groups who are eliminating us. We must rise against it.
“There is illegal miming in Kwande Local Government Area.
“All we need is to provide security and good governance and things will fall in line.
”I’ll create a partnership that will be beneficial to both investors and the Benue State Government.
”I look forward to massive employment of our Benue State youths.
“I represent unity. i give scholarships both for local and foreign studies up to post graduate level.
“I don’t look at ones origin. I deal with people based on humanity.
“I have no history of criminal acts,” he told his guests.
According to him, the question of zoning should not be used to frustrate his bid, stressing that Zone A has held power for 18 years while his own Zone B has tasted power for only 16 years when Zone C has not got a feel of it at all.
Another argument he put forward was that the sitting governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia has himself dealt a blow to zoning principle by his political appointments.
