‎Benue academics throw weight behind Prof Hon’s guber bid

‎Academics of Benue State origin on Friday converged on the Makurdi residence of governorship hopeful, Prof Sebastine Hon, saying he should stand for election in 2027.
‎
‎Dr Jackson Gyuran from Benue State University (BSU) recalled his favourable encounter with Prof Hon.
‎
‎He praised Prof Hon for responding to socio-political issues promptly.
‎
‎Prof. Nelson Aliebo from BSU said he had benefited from Prof Hon’s benevolence. He promised to give full support.
‎
‎Hon Teryila Kormi from Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwaa, Ebonyi State said the land is seriously at risk and Prof Hon has all the qualities to tackle the challenges.
‎
‎He charged his fellow academics to spread the message.
‎
‎He said, “Benue politics paradigm has shifted.
‎
‎”We are looking for a particular person with a particular character.
‎
‎”This is no time for zoning. There should be large mobilisation.’
‎
‎Dr Jude Okpe, a lecturer with JS Tarka University, Makurdi gave testimony to the good work of the governorship hopeful, saying, “We want a new Benue State.”
‎
‎Dr Zahemen Gerasha from College of Education Oju charged his fellow academics not to be afraid of intimidation and victimisation, come and render support to the governorship hopeful.
‎
‎Dr Peter Akunoko from BSU lamented, Tiv families have been displaced in Taraba State.
‎”Up to 50 percent of houses in Wukari belonged to the Tiv people but they have been completely taken.”
‎
‎Dr Gabriel Ortsa from BSU said, “I heard about you and have read your work in the media.
‎
‎”As a senior lawyer, you will give us honour if you are governor.
‎
‎”For 14 years I have not gone to my village.
‎”If i die today, my family will have to buy land to burial me.
‎
‎”I take this project as mine. I will work passionately to ensure your victory.”
‎
‎Dr Catherine Torbunde, a lecturer at Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi thanked Prof Hon for coming out for governorship.
‎
‎”We have seen horrible things. We believe you will tackle insecurity for our people to return to their trade for the good of the state.
‎
‎”I know you are an advocate for the underprivileged,” she stated.
‎
‎Responding, Pro Hon said his is a rescue and rebuilding mission and he calls it the Nehemiah Mission.
‎
‎”If I become governor, I will tackle insecurity headlong,” he assured the gathering.
‎
‎He said governors of states where terrorists are given sanctuary to launch attacks on Benue State would be confronted.
‎
‎”President Tinubu has allowed recruitment of forest guards to protect the forests but in Benue State, nothing is done.
‎
‎”Enugu State government has acquired drones to face the crisis,” he stated.
