Defence Minister Receives Fair Play Award, Assured Ministry’s Support Towards Sport

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.) OFR has assured of his continued support to sporting activities.

He gave the assurance as he was crowned with the prestigious and globally recognized award of ‘AMBASSADOR OF FAIR PLAY’ by All Federal Capital Territory Sports Association during the Association’s courtesy visit to the Ministry .

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Richard Pheelangwa who received the award on behalf of the Honourable Minister and some Principal staff of the ministry testified that Gen. Musa is a Sports Lover and a firm believer in the enormous benefits of sports to national peace and unity, hence he enjoys and participates at various sporting activities both indoors and out doors including gulf. “He will be glad to have the award and will always support sports activities” he added.

Speaking earlier, the All Federal Capital Territory Sports Association led by its Board of Trustee Chairman, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara said that the purpose of the visit was to collaborate with the Ministry to explore ways of taking sports, beginning with the Federal Capital Territory to the height that it will start yielding the desired results for the country like in other developed economies.

According to him, the Association has the intention of promoting sports to help transform the economic independence of the citizens, empower the youths and curtail restiveness, so that criminality will be reduced to its barest minimum thereby paving way for peace in the country.

The representatives of different sports such as gulf, soft/baseball, gymnastics and basketball, present at the event spoke on their desire to have their barracks sporting facilities revived once again, as most of the talents are harnessed from the barracks, being an organized setting fit for talent hunts.

Present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Maduka and staff of the Ministry.
