The Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for providing the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and critical military equipment to confront emerging security threats across the country.

Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday, 5 March 2026, when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.

During the visit, the COAS assured the governor that the Nigerian Army is strengthening its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes across Benue State and other parts of the country.

He noted that the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the strong support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of troops in tackling insecurity.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also commended the Benue State Government and its people for their resilience and sustained support to security agencies despite the security challenges confronting parts of the state.

He particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, noting that such collaboration has continued to contribute to the progress of ongoing military operations.

The Army Chief further appealed to the state government and residents to maintain close cooperation with the military and other security agencies, emphasizing that strong synergy between the armed forces, government authorities and the local population remains essential to restoring lasting peace and stability.

In his response, Governor Alia described the visit of the COAS as timely and reassuring, especially at a critical moment when intensified security efforts are required.

He commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations in the state.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they intensify efforts to curb criminality and restore peace across Benue State.
