The personnel of Nigerian Navy has continued its proactive maritime security operations with a successful interdiction of illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State.
Acting on verified in intelligence, personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER deployed an Anti Crude Oil Theft patrol team to the Abua Odual and Ogbologo general areas.
In a statement signed by Captain Abiodun Folorunsho ,Director of Naval Information revealed that during the operation, two wooden boats carrying approximately 15,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were intercepted.
Upon sighting the naval patrol, the suspects abandoned their boats and escaped into the surrounding creeks to avoid apprehension.
The Nigerian Navy recovered the vessels and the petroleum products, handling them according to established operational protocols.This operation highlights the Navy’s ongoing commitment to disrupting illegal oil bunkering and protecting the nation’s maritime interests.
The successful interdiction follows directives from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to intensify intelligence driven operations targeting economic saboteurs and criminal elements.
The Nigerian Navy remains resolute in maintaining the operational tempo of its maritime security campaigns to safeguard Nigeria’s oil infrastructure and national economic interests.
