‎The Army said the report, which circulated on social media, was intended to create panic among residents.

‎This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

‎Osoba said the attention of the Division was drawn to a Facebook post alleging an armed attack on the cleric and the cathedral.

‎He described the report as unfounded and without any basis.

‎According to him, there was no such attack in Sokoto State.

‎He assured that Bishop Kukah remains safe and is carrying out his Easter duties without any disruption.

‎Osoba also confirmed that the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral is secure.

‎He said security agencies have maintained a strong presence across the state.

‎According to him, the Army is working closely with other security agencies to ensure public safety.

‎Osoba stated that robust security measures have been put in place across the Division’s area of responsibility.

‎He added that the measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful Easter celebration.

‎He urged the public to disregard the false report and avoid spreading unverified information.

‎Osoba also called on residents to rely on credible sources for information.
