The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to discipline and professional conduct among its personnel, describing them as the bedrock of operational effectiveness.
He stated that strengthening institutional discipline and military policing remains a key focus of his leadership.
The COAS made this remark on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, while commissioning the Army Headquarters Provost Group Complex in Abuja.
The COAS noted that the newly commissioned complex, which comprises 14 offices, a conference hall, a quarter guard, a car park and a generator house, will provide a modern and conducive working environment for the Army Headquarters Provost Group.
He added that the facility will enhance command and control, administration, coordination and the execution of military policing and security support operations across the Nigerian Army.
Speaking during the ceremony, Lieutenant General Shaibu stated, “Discipline is the soul of any fighting force. This office complex will enhance the capacity of the Army Headquarters Provost Group to enforce standards, promote professionalism, and ensure that personnel conduct themselves in line with the core values of the Nigerian Army at all times.”
The COAS further stated that the project reflects the Nigerian Army’s prudent management of resources and its unwavering commitment to providing infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency and personnel welfare. He commended the Directorate of Procurement for delivering the project in accordance with approved specifications and quality standards and within the stipulated timeframe.
Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the officers and soldiers of the Army Headquarters Provost Group to make judicious use of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance. He stressed that safeguarding public assets is a collective responsibility and urged personnel to preserve the complex for the benefit of future generations.
The COAS further emphasised that the Nigerian Army will continue to invest in critical infrastructure, including accommodation, healthcare, education, and other welfare initiatives, as part of its ongoing efforts to sustain morale, strengthen discipline, and promote the highest standards of professionalism among personnel.
