The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the implementation of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal and trade policy framework.
The Service said the reforms are designed to improve economic competitiveness, enhance government revenue, support domestic industries and align Nigeria’s tariff regime with regional and international trade obligations.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada.
According to the statement, the approved measures introduce extensive changes to the country’s Customs and Excise Tariff framework to facilitate legitimate trade and improve fiscal administration.
Among the key amendments are:
- Revised Import Adjustment Tax (IAT) List.
- Revised National List for the implementation of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (2022–2027)
- Revised Import Prohibition List (Trade)
- Revised List of Goods Liable to Excise Duty
- Green Tax Surcharge on vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc and above
- Revised Export Prohibition List
The statement urged importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the revised tariff schedules and comply with all applicable fiscal and regulatory requirements.
To promote transparency and facilitate compliance, the NCS said the full document containing the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments has been uploaded to its official website for download and public access.
Maiwada said the Service remains committed to advancing government economic policies through effective trade facilitation, revenue collection and border security, stressing that the cooperation of stakeholders will be critical to the successful implementation of the new fiscal measures
