In a related event, five police aviators received accelerated promotions in recognition of their professional qualifications and outstanding service.

The honours were presented during the decoration of newly promoted officers and the presentation of commendation letters to personnel of the Nigeria Police Air Wing.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Police Air Wing, CP Martin Nwogoh, said the recognition reflected the Force’s commitment to rewarding courage, professionalism and operational excellence.

Nwogoh disclosed that some of the honoured officers completed critical missions despite sustaining gunshot wounds.

“Our personnel displayed extraordinary courage under hostile fire. Even after sustaining gunshot wounds, they safely manoeuvred their aircraft to secure locations, placing mission accomplishment above personal safety. Their actions represent the finest traditions of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

The CP described aerial surveillance and aerial bombardment as game changers in the fight against terrorism and violent crimes, noting that the Police Air Wing had significantly enhanced intelligence gathering, precision operations and support for ground forces.

“Air power has transformed our operational capability. It has strengthened intelligence gathering, enabled precision strikes, supported troops on the ground and denied criminal elements the freedom to operate,” he stated.

According to Nwogoh, the Police Air Wing has evolved into a vital component of Nigeria’s security architecture, undertaking aerial surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation, logistics support, election security and counter-insurgency operations.

He added that the accelerated promotion of the five aviators underscored the IGP’s commitment to merit, professional development and personnel welfare.

“Promotion is not merely an elevation in rank; it is a call to greater responsibility, leadership and accountability. Those honoured today must continue to exemplify discipline, integrity and selfless service,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, ACP Oyewuwo Tesleem described the recognition as a tribute to courage, discipline and teamwork, dedicating the award to his colleagues and fallen officers.

“We accept this honour with humility. It strengthens our resolve to continue serving Nigeria with professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment to duty,” he said.

Other speakers commended the Nigeria Police Force for its sustained efforts in combating insurgency and other emerging security threats across the country.
