Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, JTF NW OPFY, have recorded fresh successes against terrorists in separate operations across Zamfara State on Thursday, August 7, 2026.
The operations disrupted terrorist movements, intercepted a logistics supplier with over ₦5.3 million, recovered military accoutrements and motorcycles, and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, planted on a major road.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer, JTF NW OPFY, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, troops of Sector 2, in conjunction with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.
The team located and safely detonated the device, scanned the road and reopened it to motorists.
While returning from the operation, the troops encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji LGA. The troops engaged them, forcing the insurgents to flee into the bush. An exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items.
In Shinkafi LGA, Sector 2 troops, working with the Mobile Police Squadron, acted on credible intelligence on terrorist activity around Kwanar Jolof. The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray. A follow-up search led to the recovery of a motorcycle, a pair of camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other items.
In a separate operation near Maradun, troops on patrol intercepted a 35-year-old suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics vendor, Lawali Dan Alo.
A search of his bag, which he claimed contained food items, revealed ₦5,302,000 in cash and a mobile phone. Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect was allegedly delivering the funds on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual, Kasimu Garba, who was later arrested at his residence. Both suspects are in custody for further investigation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response.
It assured that aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted action against terrorist networks would continue across the North West region.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help restore lasting peace in the region.
