The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has commissioned 1x100MVA, 132/33KVA Power Transformer at Alausa 132/33KVA Transmission Station, a development that has significantly boosted power supply to the Ikeja industrial hub.
Commissioning the facility on 18th August, the Minister of Power, Mr. Joseph Tegbe, said the significance is beyond another engineering project milestone, but it is a strategic investment in Ikeja, the nerve centre of governance in Lagos State and one of the most economically consequential corridors in our nation. It is a deliberate strengthening of strategic locations ranging from the seat of government to the industrial estates, the factories that employ our people, the markets and workshops where millions earn their daily bread. Ikeja is where the ambition of Nigeria meets the industrious nature of Nigerians, he further stated.
According to him, Alausa is not just another location on the electricity network, it sits within one of the most economically and administratively important parts of Lagos State. “This axis supports a dense concentration of government institutions, commercial establishments, businesses, residential communities and economic activities. The electricity infrastructure serving this area therefore carries responsibilities far beyond the physical boundaries of this substation” he stated.
He said the” Alausa 132/33kV Transmission Substation was originally equipped with one 60MVA transformer, one 45MVA transformer and one 30MVA transformer. Together, they provided an installed capacity of 135MVA, equivalent to approximately 108MW.”
He added that the single intervention has increased the total wheeling and load capacity of this substation from 135MVA to 205MVA, equivalent to approximately 164MW.
More importantly, he said it has increased the quantum of bulk power available to IKEDC by 80MW for onward delivery to consumers within its franchise area.
Also speaking at the event, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, the Managing Director/CEO, TCN said beyond serving the immediate community, this upgrade meaningfully increases the quantum of bulk power that TCN can wheel to distribution load centers nationwide.
“It reinforces grid stability and ensures that more bulk power reaches the distribution companies’ load centers for onward delivery to electricity consumers within their franchise areas. It is a clear demonstration that TCN remains resolute in its mandate of building and sustaining a robust transmission network, capable of transporting Nigeria’s growing power needs to various distribution load centres nationwide” he noted.
According to him, this achievement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and reflects the continued visionary leadership and guidance of the Honourable Minister of Power in ensuring a systematic and steady progress in the power sector, for which we at TCN are truly grateful.
