The training was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. It was chaired by Deputy Comptroller Ibrahim Yusuf, who represented the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, fdc.

According to a statement signed by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I Mustapha Mubarak, the programme was facilitated by Deputy Superintendent of Fire Kabiru Muhammad and other fire safety professionals. Senior officers and men of the Command attended the session.

Speaking at the opening, Deputy Comptroller Yusuf said fire safety is a responsibility for everyone. He noted that fires can occur unexpectedly and that the right knowledge can prevent a minor incident from becoming a major disaster.

In his remarks, DSP Kabiru Muhammad said fire safety is a shared responsibility among building owners, occupants, employees and fire professionals. He commended the Customs Area Controller for providing fire safety equipment and for facilitating the training.

He urged officers to take the training seriously, stressing that the skills could help them save lives and property in emergency situations.

Participants were taken through the causes and prevention of fire, principles of fire extinction, and the proper use of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fire buckets. The session ended with a practical demonstration where officers handled firefighting equipment under the supervision of fire professionals.

In his closing remarks, Yusuf encouraged participants to extend the knowledge acquired to their families and communities, saying early response to fire incidents can help save lives and protect property.
