Obasa, who served as the third Chief Executive of the Scheme from 1979 to 1984, died on Sunday, 28th September 2026.

The NYSC management, led by the Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has paid a condolence visit to the family in Ilorin, Kwara State.

In a statement signed by Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, Nafiu described the late Obasa as a pioneer manager and one of the founding fathers of the NYSC.

According to him, Obasa laid the foundation for the strong administrative structure that has sustained the Scheme over the years.

“The death of Colonel Obasa is not only a loss to his immediate family but also to the entire NYSC family whose members will continue to cherish his enduring contributions,” Nafiu said.

He prayed to God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and assured that the Scheme would continue to build on the solid foundation laid by its founding fathers.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Victor Obasa thanked the NYSC management for the honour done to his late father, describing his death as shocking.
