The 2027 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate in Benue State, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has received with profound grief the tragic news of the boat mishap at the Buruku crossing point of River Benue, which claimed several lives and left others missing.

Chief Aondoakaa described the incident as a painful and heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown many families into mourning and cast a dark cloud over the entire state.

“It is deeply distressing that our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and children who were returning from a burial lost their lives in such a tragic circumstance. My heart goes out to every family affected by this unfortunate incident”, he said.

The PDP governorship candidate extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for divine comfort, strength and courage for them in this moment of grief. He also expressed solidarity with the families of those who are still missing, noting that the uncertainty surrounding the fate of loved ones is an emotional burden no family should have to bear.

Chief Aondoakaa commended the local divers, volunteers, emergency responders and community members who have been involved in the search and rescue efforts since the incident occurred. He urged them not to relent until every missing person is found.

He further called on the Benue State Government and relevant emergency agencies to provide immediate support and assistance to the affected families, many of whom may now be faced with trauma, arising from the tragedy.

While mourning the victims, Chief Aondoakaa stressed that the incident once again highlights the urgent need for improved safety standards on the state’s waterways. He advocated stricter enforcement of safety regulations, greater public awareness on water transportation safety, and increased investment in infrastructure that would reduce the risks faced daily by riverine communities.

“At this difficult time, the people of Buruku are not alone. We all share in their grief. We must stand together to support the bereaved families and pray for those still missing. May God grant eternal rest to the departed and comfort all who mourn them,” he added.
