The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday, 16th October, 2026, undertook an unscheduled inspection of the project to assess the pace of work, construction standards and compliance with approved specifications.

In a statement issued on 17th October, 2026, by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.the inspection underscores the COAS’ determination to accelerate infrastructure development and address accommodation challenges facing Nigerian Army personnel and their families, in line with his Soldier First philosophy and commitment to improved troop welfare.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu inspected residential accommodation blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other essential facilities designed to provide a conducive living environment for personnel. He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on progress, challenges and expected completion timelines.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved, the Army Chief charged contractors to sustain the momentum, maintain high construction standards and ensure timely delivery without compromising quality. He stressed that infrastructure projects must deliver lasting value and meet the welfare needs of troops and their families.

He noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, named in honour of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, represents a significant intervention in the Army’s ongoing efforts to bridge accommodation gaps, enhance living conditions and boost personnel morale.

He reaffirmed that the provision of modern residential facilities and other welfare infrastructure remains central to his vision of building a highly motivated, professional, resilient and combat-ready Army capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu reiterated his commitment to sustained monitoring of infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks, assuring that regular and unscheduled inspections would continue to guarantee quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money.
