The Nigerian Air Force said the recovery was carried out by technical teams from the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), adding that part of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), popularly known as the black box, had also been retrieved.

However, efforts are ongoing to locate and recover the remaining portion of the Flight Data Recorder as recovery operations continue at the crash site.

The Air Force also disclosed that additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains had been recovered from the accident site, with teams sustaining operations despite the difficult swamp terrain.

According to an official statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the recovery exercise is being conducted with due diligence to ensure comprehensive and evidence-based findings.

The statement explained that the handling of human remains was receiving careful attention, with the Directorate of Identification and Classification (DIC) undertaking the necessary procedures for proper identification.

It added that the NAF had maintained engagements with families of the victims, recognising their need for information and support, while also working with relevant authorities to address environmental concerns raised by the host community.

The Air Force appealed for continued patience and understanding from the public, noting that the recovery and investigation processes required time, careful coordination and professional attention.

It emphasised that the investigation was aimed not only at establishing the circumstances surrounding the accident but also at identifying lessons that would strengthen flight safety, improve ongoing airpower operations and further safeguard the lives of personnel and citizens.

The NAF assured the public of its commitment to providing verified updates as appropriate as the recovery and investigation efforts progress.
