Briefing journalists over the commencement of the Pan-African university in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika said applications for the pioneer students will begin lectures before the year end.

He said the need to establish the university was borne to address critical skills gap within the Nigerian aviation sector which he said it’s part of the challenges stopping the sector from achieving its full potentials.

He said the university will open “registration on the 26th of September to 28th of November, 2022.”According to the Minister, the admission process will be handled by the Nile University Abuja based on the partnership agreement whilst the university temporary campus and head office will be the new AIB building before the toll gate at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja. He also said all the necessary regulatory approvals by the National Universities Commission (NUC) has been met by the university.Sirika said the university will commence with two courses with a maximum of 25 students in each course of study. The two courses for the first year (2022) include: Bsc Aviation Business and Bsc Meteorology, this year (2022). From 2023, Msc Air Transport Management will be added to the courses. He said extensive research had been done before the university came to being.

“In our preparation to have this university start up, we did indeed contact many universities around the world, those in Africa and outside of Africa. We contacted so many universities in aerospace, education, nature and also international organizations such as International Civil Aviation Organization, (ICAO), the African Civil Aviation Commission, and the many others” Sirika said.
