The coastal states in the Nigeria still risks flash floods in the coming days, weather forecast highlights from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has shown.
The forest for Saturday, 22nd October and Sunday 23rd October, 2022, released by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office said there will be isolated thunderstorms in several parts of the south especially the coastal states.
The forecast also indicated the possibility of strong and destructive winds accompanying the thunderstorms in the high-risk states.
“The Coastal parts of the country are still at risk of flash floods. Emergency agencies are expected to be at alert,” NiMet warned adding that “strong and destructive winds are likely to accompany the thunderstorms, Citizens and Emergency agencies should be at alert and take necessary precautions.”
The forecast showed that there are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ado-Ekiti, Oyo, Abia and Edo state in the morning hours. By late afternoon, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Edo, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Ondo, Anambra and Enugu state. “But during the morning hours, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos and Rivers state. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom state” stated.
“Cloudy conditions are expected over the inland cities with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Anambra state during the morning hours. There are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ado-Ekiti, Oyo, Abia and Edo state in the afternoon/evening. During the morning hours, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos state. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom state. Potential Impact” NiMet indicated.
In the North, NiMet predicts dust haze over the Northern region with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Taraba state in the afternoon and evening period.
However, there will be “cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over the North Central region during the morning hours. Later in the day, there are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi state” the forecast showed.
It said sunny and hazy atmosphere is expected over the Northern region with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Taraba state in the afternoon and evening period.
Partly Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the North Central region during the morning hours. Later in the day, there are slim chances of isolated thundery activities over parts of Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi state.
On Sunday, cloudy conditions are expected over the inland cities with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Anambra state during the morning hours. There are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ado-Ekiti, Oyo, Abia and Edo state in the afternoon/evening. During the morning hours, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos state.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom state. Day 2 (Sunday 23 rd): Sunny and hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the Northern region with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Taraba and Adamawa state in the afternoon and evening period.
Cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over the North Central region during the morning hours. Later in the day, there are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory.
