On May 28, 2023, the federal government published a list of distinguished individuals conferred with different national honours, one of the very recognisable names was Owen Omogiafo, the President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc. This is not because she’s the youngest CEO of a listed company on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), neither is it due to the size of the company she leads, but because of the impact she has made as an individual and also in her official capacity.

Owen is a trailblazer in transformational leadership, propelling the conglomerate’s subsidiaries to remarkable success. Transcorp Plc has investments in hospitality, power, and energy.

Omogiafo has driven significant growth and spearheaded recent developments in the power sector and impressive recovery in the hospitality sector.

There are also significant developments in its energy business, which shows a clear plan to help develop Nigeria’s power sector, with strategic involvement in the entire value chain.

Needless to say, Omogiafo’s transformational leadership style has been instrumental in the success of Transcorp Plc’s subsidiaries. She fosters a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence, inspiring her team to achieve extraordinary results.

Under her guidance, the Company’s power subsidiaries have experienced remarkable growth and solidified their positions as key players in the industry.

Transcorp Power Limited was recently discharged from post-privatization monitoring by the federal government, having fulfilled all requirements and surpassed set targets. Similarly, Transafam Power Limited recently added 240MW to the national grid through its Afam III Fast Power, which was commissioned by Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

Through Omogiafo’s strategic guidance, Transcorp has achieved significant milestones, especially in its power business, including increased generation capacity, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced reliability.

These achievements have not only strengthened the company’s position in the power sector but also contributed to Nigeria’s overall energy stability.

Omogiafo’s tenure has been marked by transformative developments in the power sector. Recognizing the importance of renewable energy, she has led the company’s ambitious foray into sustainable solutions.

The company has undertaken projects focused on contributing to the diversification of Nigeria’s power sources. These initiatives align with global sustainability goals and position Transcorp Plc as a leader in environmentally friendly power generation.

Omogiafo recognizes the broader impact of the power sector on Nigeria’s economic growth and job creation. She has strategically positioned Transcorp Plc’s subsidiaries to contribute to these crucial aspects.

Owen, a former MD/CEO of Transcorp Hotels Plc herself has seen Transcorp’s hospitality subsidiary Transcorp Hotels Plc thrive despite the impact of the pandemic, leveraging the strength of the Group to stay afloat at a time several hospitality brands struggled to recover from the impact of COVID-19.

Her conferment with the award of the Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) is testament to the impact she has made and her contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria. Such awards also encourage women like Owen to do even more, as they continue to break the glass ceilings and change wrong narratives about women in leadership.
