Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two armed gunmen and recovered weapons following a successful ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, carried out on the evening of April 21, 2026, targeted criminal elements operating within the Marit general area, where armed groups have been linked to violent attacks, sexual assault, and armed robbery.

In an official signed statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Oteh, disclosed that the ambush was executed at about 7:49 p.m. near Doruwa Babuje following credible intelligence on the movement of the suspected gunmen.

According to the statement, troops engaged the criminals in a firefight upon contact, leading to the neutralisation of two of the assailants, while others fled into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.

A search of the area led to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.

The statement added that troops have maintained their presence in the Marit and Lajam communities to ensure the safety of residents, while ongoing operations are focused on tracking and apprehending fleeing members of the criminal group.

Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
