Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist abduction attempts and repelled an attack in Zamfara and Sokoto States, rescuing 16 civilians in the process.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, on Saturday in Sokoto.
According to the statement, in the early hours of 28 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call over an attempted terrorist attack on a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The terrorists, who attempted to abduct residents, fled following the swift intervention of the troops. Four civilians were successfully rescued, while troops subsequently dominated the area to prevent further terrorist activity.
Later the same day, troops responded to information on terrorist activities around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
On arrival, troops made contact with terrorists who were attempting to abduct passengers travelling in two vehicles. In the ensuing firefight, the terrorists withdrew and abandoned their intended victims.
Consequently, all 12 passengers were rescued. No casualty was recorded among the troops.
In a separate incident in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, terrorists launched an attack around Jabo Village. Troops responded decisively and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, compelling them to withdraw in disarray.
Two civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were promptly evacuated for medical attention, while troops continued to dominate the area to deny the terrorists freedom of action.
The statement said the successful rescue of the civilians and repulsion of the terrorist attack further demonstrate the determination and responsiveness of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in protecting lives and frustrating terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.
