The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has confirmed the rescue of 10 National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members who were abducted by suspected kidnappers from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
This was disclosed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, during a press briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Gen. Onoja said the operation was still ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The victims were among 15 corps members reportedly kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
Kidnappers were said to have demanded N20 million ransom from the families of some of the victims.
“The operation was still ongoing, with security forces working to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the suspects,” Gen. Onoja said.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant.
“The members of the public are urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or information that could help rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators,” he added.
Efforts to get an official statement from the Kogi State Police Command and NYSC were ongoing at press time.
